T P Aggarwal challenges FWICE over Ranveer Singh directive, calls non-cooperation order unlawful

Veteran producer T P Aggarwal has moved the Bombay Civil Court at Dindoshi against FWICE and IMPPA, challenging the practice of issuing non-cooperation directives against members of the film industry.

The petition comes in the wake of FWICE’s recent non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh amid his dispute with Excel Entertainment.

Speaking on the matter, Aggarwal said that during his tenure as president of IMPPA and the Film Federation of India, a ruling from the Competition Commission of India had made it clear that such bodies cannot impose bans or prevent individuals from working. He claimed that learning about the directive against Ranveer Singh prompted him to approach the court.

Aggarwal also expressed concern over the wider impact such actions could have on the industry, arguing that restricting artists from working could affect the livelihoods of many people associated with film productions.

When asked whether FWICE officials had contacted him after the legal action was initiated, Aggarwal remarked that they should have consulted him before taking such a decision, given his long association with industry bodies. He further criticised what he described as an attempt to exercise authority through pressure tactics.

The veteran producer also clarified that he had not spoken to Ranveer Singh regarding the matter and insisted that his decision to move court was not motivated by publicity or any personal connection with the actor.

The legal challenge has added a new dimension to the ongoing fallout between Ranveer Singh and the makers of Don 3, with the industry now closely watching how the matter unfolds in court.
