Mahakali: Akshaye Khanna transforms into Shukracharya, release date announced

The first glimpse of Mahakali has been unveiled, introducing audiences to the large-scale world of the upcoming Indian spectacle. Released under the title Shukracharya’s War Cry, the nearly three-minute video also confirms that the film will arrive in theatres on January 8, 2027.

Akshaye Khanna stands at the centre of the first glimpse in a dramatically transformed avatar as Shukracharya, the powerful guru of the Asuras. His stern expression and commanding screen presence offer the first extended look at the character after his earlier appearance generated curiosity among audiences.

The video establishes a conflict between Dharma and Adharma, suggesting that the film’s central battle will extend beyond a straightforward clash between good and evil. Shukracharya appears to hold an important position within this conflict, although the exact nature of his character’s involvement has not been disclosed.

The first glimpse also provides a broader look at the film’s visual setting. Elaborate sets, detailed world-building and extensive visual effects contribute to its larger-than-life presentation. Sriya Reddy appears briefly in the footage, adding another layer of intrigue without revealing details about her character.

At two minutes and 55 seconds, the video offers an early indication of the scale planned for Mahakali. The film is the next instalment in Prasanth Varma’s Cinematic Universe, which began with Hanu-Man and introduced its approach to Indian Itihasa-inspired storytelling.

With Mahakali, the cinematic universe is expected to expand further in both narrative scope and visual ambition. The first glimpse builds on that approach while positioning the confrontation involving Shukracharya as a significant part of the unfolding story.

Alongside Akshaye Khanna and Sriya Reddy, the cast includes Bhoomi Shetty and Rohit Saraf, with several other actors appearing in important roles. Further details about their characters and the film’s storyline remain under wraps.

With its theatrical release now confirmed for January 8, 2027, Mahakali has taken another major step towards the big screen. The first glimpse places Akshaye Khanna’s Shukracharya at the heart of its campaign while introducing the scale, atmosphere and central conflict audiences can expect from the film.
