Actress Neena Gupta definitely doesn’t shy away from portraying a nonagenarian role in her upcoming film “Sardar Ka Grandson”. Gupta believes that nowadays, actors too are picking roles that are unconventional just like the way filmmakers did.

Neena plays the character of Sardar who is a fiery old grandmother with a heart of gold. She has a deep desire to see her home in Lahore. The 61-year-old actress has tried to bring alive a 90-year-old with the aid of artificial body parts to achieve the perfect look.

Neena as said, says that the actors are now pushing the envelope and not sticking to conventional roles. She thinks so because she believes that the times have changed and so are the ways in which people are writing scripts. There is a variety of scripts today. The way actors are getting a variety of roles and the most important thing is that the acceptance by the audience has also helped. It is very motivating, she comments.

She wished that the audience will like her role in the film. She says that if they will enjoy her in this film, it will be a big deal for her and she definitely thinks there will be a lot of other actors who would get all the courage to do something different and unconventionally challenging.

Neena admits not wanting to play the role of such an old woman initially but when she read the script, she made up her mind to do it. She concludes that nowadays actors feel happy to experiment with the different roles they get to play just like the producers, directors and writers are experimenting.

Featuring Arjun Kapoor in the lead, Sardar Ka Grandson will be releasing on Netflix on May 18.
