Sunny Deol, Karan Deol and Preity G Zinta are preparing to take the promotional campaign for Batwara 1947 to Punjab. During their journey across the state, the film’s team will meet survivors of the Partition and visit the Partition Museum.
The Punjab visit is part of a multi-city promotional campaign ahead of the film’s theatrical release. The team has already travelled to Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Patna and Lucknow while promoting the Partition-era drama.
The planned meeting will give the actors an opportunity to hear personal accounts from people who witnessed the events surrounding the Partition. Their visit to the museum will also connect the promotional journey with the history and memories explored in the film.
Sunny Deol has previously spoken about his family’s connection with the Partition. During the film’s trailer launch, the actor revealed that his grandparents were on the other side of the border at the time and later shared their experiences with him.
According to Sunny, the accounts he heard from his grandparents were deeply emotional. He recalled being told that when violence threatened a village, other residents would come together to hide and protect those in danger from rioters. The actor’s recollections added a personal dimension to the film’s subject and explained why stories connected to the Partition have remained significant for his family.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Batwara 1947 features Shabana Azmi, Sunny Deol and Preity G Zinta in prominent roles. Karan Deol is also joining the team for the promotional visit across Punjab.
The film is backed by Aamir Khan Productions and is set against the period surrounding the Partition. Its Punjab campaign will focus on engaging with individuals and institutions that preserve memories of that chapter in history.
Batwara 1947 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 14.
