The first instalment of Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, will reach international cinemas two days before its planned release in India.
Producer Namit Malhotra has confirmed that the film is scheduled to open overseas on November 6, 2026. Its Indian theatrical release is currently planned for November 8, coinciding with Diwali.
Explaining the difference between the two dates, Malhotra said international film distribution traditionally follows a Friday release schedule. Since November 6 falls on a Friday, the team selected that date for markets outside India.
For the domestic market, the makers are targeting Diwali rather than following the international Friday release pattern. This places the film’s India opening two days after its overseas debut. The English-language trailer has also confirmed November 6 as the international release date.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Ravi Dubey portrays Lakshman.
The recently released trailer begins with Ravana declaring himself the ruler of all three worlds. His actions bring destruction and disorder, prompting Lord Vishnu to take the form of Ram to restore balance and protect the earth.
The footage then traces Ram’s journey as he battles demons, protects his people and eventually marries Sita. Their lives change when Ram is sent into exile for 14 years. Sita and Lakshman choose to accompany him.
The ensemble cast also includes Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, Shobana, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi, Sonal Jha, Seeba Chaddha, Adinath Kothare, Nitish Bharadwaj, Shishir Sharma and Ajinkya Deo.
Ramayana has been planned as a two-part film. The first chapter will arrive internationally on November 6 before opening in India during Diwali. The second instalment is scheduled for a Diwali 2027 theatrical release.
