Exciting news for Aashiqui enthusiasts as the eagerly awaited Kartik Aaryan starrer, originally named Aashiqui 3, has undergone a significant rebranding. The film is now titled Tu Aashiqui Hai and is rumoured to draw inspiration from the 1981 romantic drama Basera, as per recent reports.

According to Times Now, a source shared, “Aashiqui 3 is now titled Tu Aashiqui Hai. It is based on the 1981 film, Basera, starring Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, and Rekha. The film will go on floors later this year. Tripti and Kartik will play the lead roles, and the producers are yet to lock one more actress for the movie.”

While official confirmation of Tu Aashiqui Hai being a remake of Basera is pending, the chosen title and reported inspiration have piqued curiosity. Basera delved into intricate emotions and relationships, aligning with the core themes of the Aashiqui franchise.

As previously reported in December 2023, Aashiqui 3, set to commence filming in 2024, will be directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Bhushan Kumar. The iconic Aashiqui franchise began in 1990, starring newcomers Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, turning into an unexpected musical hit. Aashiqui 2 followed in 2013, featuring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, directed by Mohit Suri, and also achieved musical success.
