The recent setbacks of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan have cast a shadow over the industry, leaving exhibitors concerned about the lack of major releases in late April and throughout May. However, there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon. If all goes according to plan, the highly anticipated John Abraham-Manushi Chhillar starrer Tehran may hit cinema screens next month.

According to a source close to the project, the team is contemplating a May release for Tehran, with May 17 being one of the potential dates under consideration. A final decision is expected soon, followed by an official announcement.

Initially slated for a January 26, 2023 release, Tehran was later rescheduled to April 26.

An industry insider remarked, “As of now, May sees only two major Hindi film releases – Rajkummar Rao’s Srikanth on May 10 and Manoj Bajpayee’s action-packed Bhaiyya Ji on May 24. Securing the May 17 slot for Tehran could prove advantageous for the makers, offering them a solo release opportunity. With Tehran, Maddock Films, the same production house that broke the dry spell in Bollywood last year with Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, might repeat history.”

Directed by Arun Gopalan and produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films, along with Sandeep Leyzell and Shobhna Yadav of Bake My Cake Films, Tehran is inspired by true events and features Madhurima Tuli as John Abraham’s wife. This geopolitical thriller, shot across Glasgow, Mumbai, and Delhi in 2022, promises an engaging cinematic experience.

Reflecting on her experience, Manushi Chhillar shared, “Shooting for Tehran was incredibly enriching. I learned something new every day. Towards the end of filming, I was working nights exclusively, resulting in about 15 sleepless nights. Despite the fatigue, I felt fulfilled as an artist, gaining a deeper understanding of my craft.”
