Bollywood actress Zareen Khan has been experimenting with her onscreen characters for some time and the actress has recently decided to take on some social taboo with her next. The Hate Story 3 actress will be seen in a fresh pairing with Anshuman Jha for the upcoming quirky drama, Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele, which will revolve around the life and desires of two homosexual characters played by Zareen Khan and Anshuman Jha.

The movie will aim to challenge the social prejudices and the stigma attached to homosexuality in India through its lead characters, which are gay and lesbian. While mainstream actors refrain themselves from playing homosexuality characters in Bollywood, Zareen will be following the footsteps of Ayushmann Khurrana in the Harish Vyas directorial. The Angrezi Medium fame director has shot the entire movie in Delhi NCR and Dharmshala.

“It’s a story that’s close to my heart and needs to come out in society, especially in a country like India. Despite having fought for our Independence and having the freedom, and section 377 being approved, there are still families in which you can’t walk up and confess your sexual orientation. So freedom is still not completely there in certain sections of society and in some families, although the Government has approved it,” says Zareen Khan on her portrayal of a homosexual character in mainstream cinema.

The movie was earlier slated for a theatrical release in the month of March but in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic followed by nationwide lockdown, the movie was postponed. The latest reports suggest that now the makers are eyeing towards a digital release over an OTT platform.
