Akshay Kumar has reportedly joined the upcoming R D Burman biopic, in which he will portray legendary actor Rajesh Khanna. Farhan Akhtar is set to play the celebrated music composer in the film.
Akshay’s appearance will reportedly be an extended cameo rather than a full-length role. His character is expected to highlight the professional relationship between Rajesh Khanna and R D Burman, whose collaborations resulted in several memorable songs.
The casting also carries a personal connection for Akshay. Rajesh Khanna was his father-in-law, while the actor is married to Twinkle Khanna and shares a close relationship with Dimple Kapadia. According to the report, Akshay has been a longtime admirer of Rajesh Khanna and was fond of the late superstar. The opportunity to portray him on screen is said to have interested the actor.
Akshay has reportedly reserved 10 days for filming his portions. Production is expected to begin in October 2026. The project will also reunite Akshay with director Neeraj Pandey. The actor and filmmaker have previously collaborated on multiple films.
Farhan Akhtar will take on the central role of R D Burman, with the story focusing on the life and career of the influential music composer. The biopic will be directed by Neeraj Pandey and produced by Excel Entertainment. The makers are also expected to cast several other actors as prominent personalities from the period covered in the film.
