In a throwback to a jaw-dropping moment in film history, we revisit the time when Shia LaBeouf left an indelible mark – quite literally – on the set of The Tax Collector. The year was 2020, and LaBeouf’s dedication to his craft reached unprecedented heights as he permanently tattooed his entire chest for his role in the crime thriller.

The actor, renowned for his immersive approach to acting, took method acting to an extreme by deciding to get inked to embody the character Creeper in the soon-to-be-released film. Directed by David Ayer, The Tax Collector centres around LaBeouf’s character, a tax collector working for a local crime lord, and the lengths he went to prepare for the role have become the stuff of legend.

Ayer, in awe of LaBeouf’s commitment, shared in an interview with Slash Film, “He’s one of the best actors I’ve worked with, and he’s the most committed to body and soul. He had a tooth pulled on Fury, and then on Tax Collector, he got his whole chest tattooed. So he kind of goes all in, and I’ve never known anyone that committed.”

The permanent tattoo features the character’s name, “CREEPER,” boldly emblazoned across LaBeouf’s lower abdomen. Above that, a striking image portrays a woman leaning her head on what seems to be a clown, adding an extra layer of mystery to the character. Completing the ensemble, ink depicting the signage for “Route 071” graces his left shoulder, offering a glimpse into the intricate details of LaBeouf’s transformation.

While the film garnered attention for its intense portrayal of gang culture, it was LaBeouf’s decision to get permanently inked for the role that became a lasting conversation piece. The actor’s willingness to go to extreme lengths for authenticity has etched his performance in The Tax Collector into the annals of cinema history. However, despite the actor’s commendable commitment, The Tax Collector faced an unexpected twist at the box office. The movie, with a budget of 3 crores USD, only managed to rake in a mere 13 lakhs USD, marking a stark contrast to the anticipation surrounding LaBeouf’s tattooed portrayal.
