With Coronavirus pandemic and nationwide lockdown, OTT platforms and web-series format gained huge momentum and even the biggest names from the entertainment industry joined the bandwagon. After many direct-digitally released movies tanked at the OTT platforms, many filmmakers are slicing their movies into the episodic format. The latest in the list is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heera Mandi and as per Pinkvilla, the makers have locked the cast.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali collaborated with Netflix for the 8-episode web series titled Heera Mandi and as per the entertainment portal, Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi have given their nod to the project. Set in the 1800s to mid-1950s, Heera Mandi was earlier being made as a movie but the same will now be presented as a web-series with the first season comprising of eight episodes.

According to the report, Sonakshi Sinha has approved the script and verbally agreed to do her part in the show. However, she is yet to sign the dotted line for Netflix’s series. The character proposed to Sonakshi Sinha is informed to be a powerful role with some shades of grey to it. The web-series will also feature Huma Qureshi in a prominent role with Nimrat Kaur, Sayani Gupta and Manisha Koirala in the list of expected casting.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is currently working on the Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, will helm three episodes in the web series including the season finale, while Vibhu Puri will direct the remaining five. The series is expected to go on the floors in April.
