Former beauty queen and Prithviraj actor, Manushi Chhillar, who is going to make her Bollywood debut soon, is celebrating Earth Day by reflecting upon how being vegetarian affects the Earth in a positive way. She has recently featured in a brand new campaign for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), India, that encourages people to drop the consumption of meat and meat-based products on World Earth Day this year as a way to mark the occasion.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation, animal farming, Breeding, rearing and harvesting for consumption lend to about 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This percentage of emissions is greater than the total greenhouse gas emissions generated by the transport system of the world.

Chillar, in an interview, says that for her, remaining a vegetarian has always been a personal choice that she made long ago. This has helped her concentrate on how staying vegetarian has impacted her overall fitness. The beauty queen believes that the food we eat should always be in terms of our personal choice and one must only eat what they feel is best for them. However, she along with other associates and PETA India advises everyone to give being vegetarian a try for World Earth Day and even beyond if they are happy to continue doing so. She thinks that people could leave non-vegetarian meals forever, it would be such icing on the cake. Manushi spoke about how meat-free whole foods or products are kinder to the plants and animals and better for our health and ecosystems.

PETA is running the national campaign with Manushi, in which she is shown wearing a strangely beautiful crown made of cauliflower, asparagus and tomatoes and carrying the message of vegetarianism from door to door.

She joins the league of celebrities such as Kartik Aaryan, Anushka Sharma, Shahid Kapoor, and many others who’ve teamed up with PETA India to promote healthy, humane meat-free meals.
