Grammy and Oscar award winner, Lady Gaga has opened up about her trauma of being raped, while speaking on the Oprah Winfrey Show and Prince Harry’s series “The Me You Can’t See”.

As she appears in the first episode of the five-part series, the singer recalls being only 19 when a producer terrorised to burn her music down, if she didn’t take her clothes off for him. While still breaking down, she says that they wouldn’t stop asking her and she just froze and doesn’t even remember how the things went on.

The 35-year-old singer refuses to name her assailant and adds that she doesn’t wish to face her assailant again. Gaga has earlier well-spoken about her sexual assault in a 2014 radio interview with Howard Stern. In 2016, she had also opened up about her PTSD diagnosis.

In “The Me You Can’t See”, she describes how her pain was reflected in a physical way. She recalls feeling sick for weeks and weeks afterwards and observed that it was the same exact pain that she felt when the person who raped her dropped her off pregnant in a corner, at her parent’s house, because she was vomiting and sick. Gaga had been being abused and was locked away in a studio for months.

She reveals that she has a total psychotic break, and for a couple years, she didn’t feel like herself, like the same girl. She says that even if she has six brilliant months, it only takes once to be triggered and feel bad. And when she feels bad, she has urges to cut, and think about dying, and suicides wondering if she is ever gonna do it. Additionally, Gaga says that one tends to get frustrated with themselves and starts having thoughts like ‘Why am I not getting better? What’s wrong with me?’ Even though the person will be aware of nothing is wrong with them, there will still be something that won’t be firing right.

Gaga has shared her story not to seek any sympathy but to trigger empathy in others. She advises people to open their heart up for others because she tells this from her experience that people do need help.
