Vijay Sethupathi has revealed why he agreed to make a cameo appearance in Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2 despite deciding to stop accepting such roles.
The actor explained that he made an exception solely because the film stars Rajinikanth. He believes that even if his image appears on the promotional posters for Jailer 2, audiences will continue to view the project primarily as a Rajinikanth film.
His experience with smaller productions, however, has been different. Vijay said that some films use his cameo appearances prominently in their marketing campaigns. According to the actor, this practice can affect the films in which he appears as the main hero.
Vijay has therefore decided against taking up further cameo roles, with Jailer 2 remaining the only exception to his rule. His comments clarify why he agreed to join the sequel despite becoming more selective about brief appearances in other projects.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 stars Rajinikanth as Muthuvel Pandian. The sequel is expected to continue the story following the events of the first film, which was released in 2023. The upcoming action entertainer also features Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah and Suraj Venjaramoodu in important roles. Mohanlal, Vijay Sethupathi, Hrithik Roshan and Shiva Rajkumar are also expected to appear in the film.
Jailer 2 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 15, 2026.
Vijay Sethupathi, meanwhile, has several films in his upcoming lineup. He will next appear in Mysskin’s Train and also has Puri Jagannadh’s Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road. The actor will be seen in a key role in the Silambarasan TR-led Arasan and is also associated with Pocket Novel.
