Aamir Khan has reportedly become the centre of a fresh controversy following his recent marriage to Gauri Spratt. According to reports, a fatwa has been issued against the actor by a cleric who objected to the couple’s interfaith marriage.
The reported fatwa was issued by Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, identified as the Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta. The cleric reportedly stated that, according to his interpretation of Sharia, a Muslim man is not permitted to marry a non-Muslim woman.
In a video that has surfaced online, the cleric is heard explaining his objections to Aamir Khan’s marriage. He also reportedly commented on the actor’s third marriage, stating that if a person is unable to fulfil the responsibilities of marriage, they should refrain from marrying again.
Aamir Khan and Gauri Spratt recently tied the knot in a private registered ceremony attended by close family members and friends. The couple chose to solemnise their marriage under the Special Marriage Act.
Neither Aamir Khan nor Gauri Spratt has publicly responded to the reported fatwa. The actor’s team has also not issued an official statement on the matter at the time of writing.
The development has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users debating the issue of interfaith marriages and personal choice. The controversy comes just days after news of Aamir Khan’s marriage made headlines across the country.
