Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the most comic-accurate MCU Spider-Man film yet, says Kevin Feige

The wait for Tom Holland’s return as Spider-Man is nearly over. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day set to swing into theatres on July 31, anticipation is steadily building among Marvel fans eager to see what lies ahead for Peter Parker after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The upcoming film picks up after one of the most emotional endings in MCU history, where Peter sacrificed his personal relationships and identity to save the multiverse. Now living in a world where no one remembers who he is, Peter finds himself starting over from scratch.

According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, this fresh start allows the character to embrace a version of Spider-Man that longtime comic book readers will instantly recognise. Feige recently described Brand New Day as the first MCU Spider-Man film to fully focus on the classic elements that have defined the character for decades.

Rather than balancing superhero duties with a large circle of friends and allies, Peter is now living a much simpler and lonelier life. He spends his days in a modest apartment, monitors police activity through a scanner, and heads out to protect the city whenever duty calls. The approach marks a return to the street-level storytelling that made Spider-Man one of Marvel’s most relatable heroes.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton also shed light on Peter’s emotional state heading into the film. Following the devastating events of No Way Home, Peter is still carrying the weight of loss and isolation. Instead of processing those emotions, he channels all of his energy into being Spider-Man.

The filmmaker explained that Peter’s journey explores how people often respond to grief by immersing themselves in work and responsibilities, even when it may not be the healthiest way to cope. That emotional struggle is expected to play a major role in shaping the character’s next chapter.

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and Sadie Sink. While plot details remain largely under wraps, Marvel has hinted that the film will deliver a more grounded and character-driven story while staying true to Spider-Man’s comic-book origins.
