Shahid Kapoor’s latest thriller Deva, directed by Rosshan Andrrews and co-starring Pooja Hegde, has been struggling at the box office. The film, which opened to a modest ₹19 crore over its first weekend, saw a steep drop on Monday, collecting just ₹2.50 crore. The downward trend continued on Tuesday, with early estimates suggesting a further decline of about 10%, bringing the Day 5 total to around ₹2.15-2.25 crore.

With its five-day earnings hovering around ₹23.75 crore, Deva has not lived up to expectations, especially considering Shahid Kapoor’s solid box office pull. One of the biggest hurdles for the film has been the perception of it being a remake. Despite the makers repeatedly denying any connection to the 2013 Malayalam film Mumbai Police, audiences have noted the striking similarities in the core storyline, which may have impacted its reception.

The competition is set to heat up even further as multiple new films hit theatres. Badass Ravikumar and Loveyapa are releasing in Hindi, while the re-releases of Padmaavat and Sanam Teri Kasam on February 7 are also expected to draw audiences. Adding to the challenge, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is making a comeback in premium formats, with nearly 2 lakh tickets already sold in advance. Fans who missed its IMAX screenings in December due to Pushpa 2 dominating the screens are now eager to catch the sci-fi epic.

In South India, regional biggies like Vidaamuyarchi and Thandel are further limiting Deva’s prospects. With limited screen space from Friday onwards, the film is unlikely to see significant growth in its second week. As things stand, Deva is projected to wrap up its theatrical run in India with earnings close to ₹35 crore.

However, on the international front, the film has performed relatively better. It recorded the biggest overseas opening for a Hindi film in 2025 and is expected to end its global run with a collection of around $2-2.25 million, a figure that surpasses its domestic performance in proportion.
