Marvel Studios has hired Nic Pizzolatto, creator of the crime series True Detective, to write the script for the upcoming Blade movie. The film features Mahershala Ali as the vampire slayer, with a star-studded cast including Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo, and Mia Goth. The film is set to be darker than most Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, according to ‘Variety.’
Pizzolatto will work on the script based on an earlier draft by Emmy-nominated Michael Starrbury. Directed by Yann Demange, known for White Boy Rick and the pilot of Lovecraft Country, the movie is expected to start filming in Atlanta in late May. The Blade reboot was first announced in 2019, with Ali taking on the role after Wesley Snipes portrayed the character in three earlier films.
Blade is set to be released on September 6, 2024, as the final film in Phase Five of the MCU. Pizzolatto and Ali previously collaborated on the third season of True Detective. Ali received a Primetime Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Wayne Hays, an Arkansas cop.
Pizzolatto, an award-winning novelist and short-story writer, is best known for creating True Detective, which debuted in 2014. He is also developing a reboot of The Magnificent Seven for Amazon. Night Country, the fourth season of True Detective starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, is set to debut later this year. Pizzolatto is represented by WME and Anonymous Content.
