Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer remake of the classic cult comedy, Coolie No. 1, is being remade and the movie is in the news lately for its release. The 45th directorial venture of David Dhawan is scheduled to premiere directly on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video but the makers are in two minds over its theatrical release at single-screen theatres.
While the new guidelines offer some relief to the movie theatre owners, they are still under the scarcity of playing programmes as the majority of movies are being released exclusively to OTT platforms. However, the makers of Coolie No. 1 are in talks with single screen owners across the country for a simultaneous theatrical release. The final call, however, is yet to be taken by the end of the month as the comedy drama eyes for the Christmas week.
Multiplex Association of India is sturdy on their decision to not screen any film premiered over the OTT platform. However, single screen theatre owners are more flexible with their terms and they are looking forward to get back in business with big releases. Earlier, single screen owners had sent an open letter to Akshay Kumar requesting him release his movie, Laxmii, simultaneausly on OTT platform and theatres. However, their plea was not entertained.
Helmed by David Dhawan, Coolie No. 1 is an official remake of the Govinda and Karisma Kapoor starrer with the same title. The remake stars Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan as the leads and it will premiere on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime India.
