A renowned household name and everyone’s favourite, Ghanshyam Nayak, best known for portraying the comic character of Nattu Kaka in the immensely popular sitcom, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, passed away yesterday after his battle with cancer. His co-actors and producer of the sitcom TMKOC stepped out to attend his last rites.

Dilip Joshi, who plays Jethalal Gada, attended the late actor’s funeral rites with Bhavya Gandhi and Samay Shah, known for playing Tapu and Gogi in the show. Asit Kumarr Modi, the producer of the show, was also spotted at the last rites of Ghanshyam Nayak who is survived by his wife and three kids.

Tanmay Vekaria, who plays Bagga on the show, remembers Ghanshyam as he battled cancer and hopes that he is in a better place now. “He was in a lot of pain since the last 2-3 months and I feel now he is in a better place. I would often speak to his son and he would tell me that he was in immense pain and had become cranky because of it. He was not able to gulp, eat or even drink water,” he told a news daily.

As per reports, Ghanshyam underwent surgery after eight knots were found in his neck last year. His son told a tabloid that they started his chemotherapy sessions after they found some spots through a positron emission tomography scanning. Ghanshyam was part of over 100 Gujarati and Hindi films and worked in approximately 350 Hindi television series.
