Taapsee Pannu is known for her outspoken nature and the actress has always been vocal about issues, whether it is pay disparity among gender or controversies related to her movies. In a recent media encounter, the Naam Shabana actress talked about her views on the flawed character of Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh.

The trailer of Taapsee Pannu’s next, Thappad, released yesterday and it has been getting great response from the audiences and the critics, alike. While the story of the movie revolves around violence in a relationship, the actress was asked about her opinions about the earlier released romantic drama, Kabir Singh, which dealt with a violent relationship as well. Kabir Singh also faced a lot of criticism for its plot and it was called out by the majority for its titular character resorting to violence to express love.

Talking about the same, Taapsee Pannu said that it is okay to play flawed characters on the screen as she has portrayed a negative character herself. However, the actress added that portraying the flawed character as heroic cannot be said ‘okay’. Discussing the impact of cinema in a country like India, Taapsee said, “in a county like India, where half the city sported Salman Khan’s hairdo from Tere Naam and surviving on the concept of ‘pyaar dosti hai’, one cannot ignore the impact of cinema.”

Speaking of Thappad, the drama is helmed by Anubhav Sinha and stars Taapsee Pannu alongside Pavail Gulati as the prominent character. The movie is slated to release on 28 February.
