Indian actor Shahid Kapoor is currently one of the busiest actors in the industry signing back to back big banner movies post the success of Kabir Singh at the box office. While the actor recently completed the filming of his upcoming sports-drama, Jersey, he is currently preparing for his digital debut with the filmmaker duo, Raj and DK. Meanwhile, the reports suggest that he has been approached to play a mighty character from Indian history.
According to a report, Shahid Kapoor has been approached by Ashwin Varde for a period-drama focussing on the legends of one of the bravest rulers of the country, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. After discussing the idea, the actor has reportedly given his nod for the project but he is yet to sign the dotted line. The makers are currently locking the modalities before preparing the film contract.
Shahid Kapoor has earlier portrayed the last ruler of the Rawal branch of the Guhila dynasty, Maharawal Ratan Singh, in the critically acclaimed and controversial period-drama, Padmaavat, co-starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The movie went on to win numerous accolades including three National Film Awards and Shahid Kapoor’s performance as the Rajput ruler was highly praised.
If things materialize as expected, the untitled period-drama around Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will mark the second outing of Shahid Kapoor with film producer Ashwin Varde. The two had earlier collaborated for the blockbuster, Kabir Singh.
