Highly-anticipated romantic comedy helmed by Anand L Rai, Atrangi Re, will be premiering later this week and the fans are eagerly waiting to see Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan coming together for the first time. While the trio looks promising to the audience and the critics alike, the makers had something else in their minds during the casting for the project.
The movie which will be released on the OTT giant Disney+ Hotstar on Christmas Eve features Akshay Kumar, Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan as the leads. However, according to recent reports, not Akshay Kumar but Salman Khan was the initial choice for the movie character. As per the source, the makers had approached Salman Khan to play the character of Akshay Kumar in the movie and the superstar loved the idea. However, it never materialized and makers had to let go of Salman Khan and search for other A-lister.
The search, however, didn’t end there as the makers offered the role to Hrithik Roshan after it didn’t work out with Salman Khan. Hrithik Roshan, who is best known for his charm, was fit to play the desirable magician turned lover in the movie. The actor had multiple meetings with the team and he was on the verge of signing the project before it fell through at the last moment. Later, the role was offered to Akshay Kumar who gave his nod to the project given a special character.
In recent interviews with the crew of the movie, it has been revealed that filmmaker Anand L Rai was shocked when Akshay Kumar accepted the offer in one go despite the small screentime. The actor-director duo is getting stronger which each project and the superstar trusted the vision of the filmmaker for Atrangi Re. The two are also working together for Raksha Bandhan and Gorkha.
