If you grew up in the ’90s, chances are Ishq holds a special place in your heart. The romantic comedy starring Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Juhi Chawla, and Kajol was a massive hit, blending romance, comedy, and drama in a way that’s still memorable 27 years later. Now, there’s a buzz about a potential sequel, and director Indra Kumar seems more than ready to take it on.
In a recent interview with ETimes, Kumar didn’t hold back his excitement. “If Aamir and Ajay give me the go-ahead, I’ll start writing the script tomorrow,” he said. But he was quick to add, “Matching the original is no small feat. We’d need a script that does justice to it.”
The chatter about a sequel started after Aamir and Ajay reunited at the muhurat ceremony of Milap Zaveri’s upcoming film Tera Yaar Hoon Main in Mumbai. Produced by Indra Kumar, the event was a nostalgia trip for fans. Seeing the duo together again instantly brought back memories of Ishq.
During the event, Ajay joked about how much fun they had while filming the 1997 classic and suggested they should work together again. Aamir didn’t hesitate to agree, much to the delight of fans who’ve been waiting for a reunion.
The two stars also shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes story from the Ishq days. Aamir recalled an incident involving a chimpanzee during a stunt. Apparently, the animal wasn’t too happy after Aamir sprayed it with water, leading to a sudden attack. Ajay had to step in and save him. “Well, you kind of deserved it,” Ajay quipped, laughing.
The chemistry and camaraderie between Aamir and Ajay remain as strong as ever, which only adds to the excitement around the possibility of Ishq 2. Whether or not the sequel happens, it’s clear fans would love to see this iconic duo back on screen together.
