Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh who played Kamal Hasaan and Tabu’s daughter back in 1977 in the film Chachi 420, rose to fame when she starred in Dangal (2016) alongside Aamir Khan.

Recently she has undertaken films such as Ludo and Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari and is now bracing herself for her upcoming film, the OTT anthology “Ajeeb Daastaans”. Fatima opens up about how she is time and time doubting herself and pushing herself to perform better.

The actress reveals how she questions her journey each day and recognises her weaknesses and challenges. She believes in outdoing her self and overcoming her insecurities and be ready to take up new challenges on the work front. She reveals that sometimes she feels super confident and the other times she feels insecure no matter how successful she has become. However, she thinks that self-doubting plays a major role for her because it helps her grow And be better.

Talking about her upcoming film, Ajeeb Daastaans, she tells how the film brings together four stories that analyse the complications of human emotions including jealousy, entitlement, prejudices and toxicity, and their aftermaths.

About storytelling when it comes to subjects involving sex, gender, class and patriarchy, Fatima thinks that no matter what the story is, if it is written in a precise and beautiful manner it can be a well written one.

She has been cast in the first story of the anthology, called Majnu wherein she plays the character of a young woman called Leepakshi, who is in an unhappy marriage. Competing for love and attention, she is suddenly trapped in confusion when a young new male walks into the household.

Fatima thinks Leepakshi is a very layered character but also a very simple one to comprehend since it’s the centre of the story. It is easy to see through her qualities, flaws, journey and her complexities. However it is not in the bracket of black and white, says Fatima, and that’s what makes it beautiful.

Fatima says that she enjoyed playing the role because it is so distant from her own personality and to experience a character like Leepakshi was like seeing a different world altogether and hear and know so many new things.
