Veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, celebrated for timeless family classics like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, has found his next leading man. Ayushmann Khurrana is set to star as the protagonist in Barjatya’s upcoming family romantic drama, stepping into the shoes of the iconic “Prem” in a new-age adaptation of Barjatya’s cinematic universe.

As reported by PinkVilla, this yet-to-be-titled project is deeply rooted in Indian traditions and requires a young actor with a family-friendly appeal. A source close to the project revealed, “Sooraj ji wanted someone who embodies innocence, charm, and relatability, and Ayushmann Khurrana was the perfect choice. His personality aligns seamlessly with the qualities of Prem. Ayushmann was captivated by the script, and Sooraj ji is confident that he will bring a fresh and unique perspective to the beloved character.”

Set to begin filming in the summer of 2025, the movie promises to blend modern sensibilities with traditional Indian values in a heartfelt love story. While Ayushmann has been confirmed as the lead, the search is underway for the female lead. Barjatya, known for assembling stellar casts, plans to finalize the heroine before moving on to build a strong ensemble for the film.

Over the years, the character of Prem has become synonymous with Salman Khan, who portrayed the role in Barjatya’s earlier blockbusters. With Ayushmann stepping into this iconic legacy, he aims to make the role his own while preserving its timeless essence. Notably, this project marks Ayushmann Khurrana’s first venture into the pure family romantic drama genre, a fresh addition to his diverse filmography.
