The possibility of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 has received an encouraging update from director Zoya Akhtar. Fifteen years after the original film reached cinemas, the filmmaker has indicated that she and her team are exploring ideas for a sequel.
Released in 2011, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara starred Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol as childhood friends Arjun, Imran and Kabir. The story followed the trio as they reunited for a bachelor trip across Spain before Kabir’s wedding.
The film connected strongly with younger audiences through its portrayal of friendship, personal fears and changing relationships. Several of its scenes and dialogues continue to be remembered, helping the road-trip drama retain its place in popular culture.
During a conversation with Anupama Chopra at the Nilaya Monsoon Film Festival, Zoya responded positively when asked about the possibility of a sequel. “We are on it,” the filmmaker said, offering fans their clearest indication yet that discussions are underway.
However, the sequel remains at a very early stage. A screenplay has not been finalised, and the project has not formally entered production. While the update confirms that the idea is being considered, several creative and logistical decisions will need to be completed before the film can move forward.
Zoya and writer Reema Kagti reportedly want the new story to examine where Arjun, Imran and Kabir are 15 years after their memorable journey through Spain. Their aim is to revisit the characters only if they can find a narrative that feels natural and relevant to their lives today.
The early status of the sequel also means that audiences may have to wait for a more concrete announcement. Zoya and Farhan previously announced Jee Le Zaara, a female-led road film featuring Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Alia Bhatt. The project was unveiled several years ago, but there has been no recent update on when it will begin production.
For now, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 remains an idea under development rather than a confirmed production. The filmmakers are interested in catching up with Arjun, Imran and Kabir, but the sequel will move ahead only if they find the right story and secure the return of the original cast.
