Alia Bhatt has reportedly started work on Tumbbad 2, further raising anticipation for the sequel to the 2018 folk-horror film. The actress, whose involvement in the project was announced in July, was recently spotted with the team during the ongoing filming schedule.
Pictures from the set show Alia posing with members of the crew in a casual outfit. She was seen wearing an oversized striped shirt with her hair tied in a high ponytail. The current schedule is reportedly being filmed around locations featuring a river and an old fort.
The sequel will mark Alia’s first full-length project in the horror genre. She is expected to share the screen with Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has also joined the film in an important role.
Details about their characters have not been disclosed, with the filmmakers maintaining secrecy around the plot. Nawazuddin is expected to occupy a significant place in the narrative, while Alia’s character is likely to introduce a new dimension to the film’s folklore-inspired world.
Filmmaker Adesh Prasad is directing Tumbbad 2, with Sohum Shah returning to lead the project. The sequel is expected to expand the mythology introduced in the original film while continuing to explore greed, fear and human nature.
Released in 2018, Tumbbad introduced audiences to a dark mythological world shaped by an unending hunger for wealth. The second instalment is expected to develop that mythology further while opening a new chapter in the story.
With Alia Bhatt, Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui forming the principal cast, Tumbbad 2 is steadily taking shape and is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 3, 2027.
