As the entertainment world readies to celebrate Amitabh Bachchan’s 82nd birthday, a blockbuster announcement has electrified fans everywhere. Producer Anand Pandit is gearing up to bring a sequel to the iconic 1978 classic Trishul, which starred the legendary Bachchan.
Speaking with Mid-Day, Pandit shared the profound impact that Trishul, and Bachchan’s role as Vijay, had on his life. “I’ve watched Trishul nearly 60 times,” Pandit reminisced. “The story of Vijay, a man who arrives in the city with nothing and climbs to success in the construction world, struck a deep chord with me.” Inspired by Vijay’s journey, Pandit moved from Gujarat to Mumbai to chase his own dreams, with Trishul as his guide. Now, crafting Trishul 2 is his tribute to the actor who shaped his life long before they even met.
Directed by the late Yash Chopra, the original Trishul was a milestone in Indian cinema, with Bachchan alongside Sanjeev Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, Rakhee, and Hema Malini. The sequel, Pandit reveals, will explore Vijay’s journey after reconciling with the Gupta family.
This project holds both professional and deeply personal meaning for Pandit. “Trishul 2 will delve into Vijay’s life after joining the Gupta family. Did he find happiness with Geeta, played by Rakhee? Did he finally heal? These are questions we’ll explore.”
If all goes as planned, Trishul 2 will mark Pandit’s fifth collaboration with Bachchan, having previously joined forces on Sarkar 3, Chehre, Fakt Mahilao Maate, and The Big Bull. While the director for the sequel hasn’t been finalized, excitement among fans and Bollywood insiders is palpable, especially as one of Bachchan’s most beloved characters prepares for a thrilling return to the big screen.
