Rohit Shetty, known for his successful streak of cop films over the last 15 years, is venturing into a new cinematic direction. While he is currently focused on directing Golmaal 5, Shetty is set to produce a biopic based on the life of real-life hero Rakesh Maria, the former Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Police.
According to media sources, Shetty shares a long-standing bond with Rakesh Maria, who has played a pivotal role in the filmmaker’s research for his cop universe films. The upcoming project is said to be a tribute to Maria’s incredible journey and heroics.
“Rohit Shetty has been committed to making a biopic on Rakesh Maria for years. The script is finalized, and the film is expected to go on floors in summer 2025,” a source revealed.
Leading the film is John Abraham, who will step into the shoes of the celebrated supercop. “John is thrilled to collaborate with Rohit Shetty on this project. This film won’t be a part of Shetty’s cop universe but will stand as its own universe, showcasing the life of one of the most iconic real-life cops, Rakesh Maria,” the source added.
This biopic will be produced under the Rohit Shetty banner following the release of Singham Again. The film is slated for a theatrical release in 2026, promising to bring a gripping story of courage and resilience to the big screen.
