Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja is already making waves in China, even before its official release. The film recently had limited preview screenings, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with growing box office numbers hinting at a strong reception.
After earning ₹1.09 crore on its first day of previews, with 23,464 tickets sold, Maharaja witnessed a significant jump on the second day, bringing in ₹1.26 crore. This brings the total two-day preview earnings to an impressive ₹2.35 crore, with over 45,600 tickets sold. The consistent growth in collections is a clear indicator of favourable word-of-mouth and audience appreciation.
The film, written and directed by Nithilan Saminathan, stars Vijay Sethupathi alongside Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natarajan Subramaniam. Originally released in India on June 14, Maharaja is now gearing up for a massive release in China, reportedly across 40,000 screens.
Chinese audiences have historically embraced content-driven Indian films, and with Maharaja offering a gripping storyline and stellar performances, expectations are high for it to become a blockbuster.
As the film prepares for its grand opening on November 29, all eyes are on whether it can capitalize on its positive start and deliver a memorable theatrical run in one of the world’s largest film markets.
