The Coronavirus pandemic has changed the world as we used to see and almost every country is affected by the viral pandemic. While every industry is affected by the Coronavirus scare, the entertainment industry was the first to shut down and, most likely, will be the last one to function when the situation normalizes. Meanwhile, movie releases got stuck amid the crisis, many filmmakers joined hands with OTT platforms for the digital premiere of their projects.
While the entire nation is confined to their own homes to curb the spread of the deadly spread, the video streaming giants have experienced exponential growth in their businesses. Many OTT platforms have approached filmmakers with lucrative deals to release their movies directly on digital platforms by skipping the traditional theatre run. While many big projects including Gulabo Sitabo and Shakuntala Devi joined Amazon Prime Video for a digital premiere, Yash Raj Films has taken a stand in support of theatres and multiplexes.
As per the sources, one of the biggest production houses, Yash Raj Films, was also approached by the OTT platforms with alluring deals but the production house has reportedly rejected the offers and sticking to the traditional way of releasing its movies. The report also mentioned that YRF also cares for the exhibition sector which took a huge hit by the lockdown as well as YRF doesn’t want audiences to consume movies made for big screens on phones or laptops.
Yash Raj Films has completed its 50 years in the industry and currently has a lineup of big-budgeted movies. While Ranveer Singh starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar are two movies in the release lineup post the lockdown, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera and Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj are in the pre-production phase.
