American actor Will Smith has been in the headlines lately for all the good and bad reasons. The actor was honoured with the Best Actor Award at the recent Academy Awards but his win was preceded by an ugly altercation with host and comedian Chris Rock during which the actor slapped the host on stage. Following the incident and a significant backlash, Will Smith has been facing many setbacks in his career as many production houses called him off from their projects. Now, his next big release has been postponed.
AppleTV+’s Emancipation is undoubtedly one of the biggest projects of the megastar and is considered the streaming giant’s next big project after CODA that won the Best Picture honour at the Oscars 2022. The movie led by Will Smith was slated to be the actor’s first release after the incident but the latest report suggests that the project will not be seeing the light this year. As reported by Variety, the decision to shift the film’s release date from 2022 to next year may be due to the aftermath of the Oscars incident considering the film’s release could mean that the slapping incident will be the dominating topic during the film’s promotion.
However, other reports allege that the filmmaker Antoine Fuqua is currently busy with the post-promotions of the big project and the film may not be ready for a release by the end of the year. However, there has been no official confirmation about the same yet and we expect an announcement of the new release date from the production house soon.
