After showing fine performance in popular web series like ‘Mirzapur’ and ‘Broken’ Vikrant Massey has bagged Meghna Gulzar’s next title ‘Chhapaak’ opposite Deepika Padukone.
‘Chhapaak’ is based on the real life story of Acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and her inspirational journey post the incident that shook the administration and created a great impact on the law and medical institutions. In 2005, Laxmi was attacked by an assailant twice her age after she denied him for marriage and her case resulted in an amendment being passed on Acid Crime laws in 2013.
Deepika who was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavat’ in 2018, will be seen playing the character of the acid attack survivor, directed by Meghna Gulzar whose last directorial venture ‘Raazi’ went out to become a huge hit of 2018. Vikrant on the other hand will be seen playing a North-Indian guy who starts a campaign against acid violence where he happens to meet her.
‘Chhapaak’ will not be the first movie where Meghna will be seen recreating a real life story on big screen, we have already seen her recreating thread of lives in movies like ‘Raazi’ which narrated the story of an Indian female spy and ‘Talvar’ based on 2008’s Noida twin murder case of Aarushi and Hemraj.
The Piku actress was quite occupied with her wedding festivities until few days back, but will soon start shooting for Chhapaak in early 2019. The movie also marks her debut as a Producer.
Vikrant who has charmed the audience with his versatility as an actor in series and movies like ‘A Death In the Gunj’, ‘Lootera’ ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ and ‘Half Girlfriend’ is pretty excited about being part of this big project. The actor shared his excitement on his twitter handle.
