Veteran Indian actor Vikram Gokhale was admitted to a hospital a while ago for health-related complications and he was being treated in Pune’s Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. In shocking news to the Indian film industry, the actor breathed his last on Saturday and left for his heavenly abode at an age of 77.

As confirmed by his family members, Vikram was in critical condition and was not responding well to the treatment in his last days. “This is to confirm that Mr Vikram Gokhale passed away this afternoon. We would like to thank everyone for their good wishes, support and prayers through this difficult time,” Gokhale’s daughter told PTI.

The veteran actor was on life support and the doctors have reported multiple organ failures as the reason for his demise. “We are saddened to announce that the noted actor Mr Vikram Gokhale passed away today at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital due to multi organ failure. Our deep condolences,” read the hospital’s official statement.

Vikram Gokhale’s body will be kept at Bal Gandharva Sabagruha for family and friends to pay their last respects. The actor’s last rites will take place at 6 pm at Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune on Saturday.

Vikram Gokhale, during his extensive career, featured in Marathi as well as Hindi films, including Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic Agneepath and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In recent years, he starred in films like Mission Mangal, Hichki, Aiyaari, Bang Bang!, De Dana Dan and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, among many others. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, he also starred in several TV shows.
