Used to be the hit-machine of Bollywood, the last couple outings for Varun Dhawan turned out to be a dud at the box office and the actor is ruthlessly serious about his career. Earlier, it was informed that Dhawan postponed his plans to settle down with girlfriend, Natasha Dalal, as he wanted to focus on his acting career. The latest report suggests that the Badlapur actor has opted out of not one but two Shashank Khaitan’s directorial projects.

Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan share a great bond between them and the actor-director duo has worked together in two successful comedy-dramas, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. Dhawan started the year with the first look poster release for Shashank Khaitan directorial comedy-drama, Mr Lele, but the actor decided to walk out of the movie. Earlier reports suggested that the movie was shelved due to date issues but the latest sources have it that Dhawan talked to Karan Johar that he didn’t want to serve an overdose of comedies to his audience. The source further adds Varun Dhawan wants to sign serious movies for the time being as he is already doing a comedy-drama, Coolie No 1, with his father.

However, Mr Lele is not the only movie of Shashank Khaitan that Dhawan decided to let go. He also opted out of the ambitious period-drama, Ranbhoomi, which was supposed to be helmed by Khaitan and bankrolled by Dharma Productions. Although, at the time of the movie announcement, Dhawan excitedly said that It was going to be the biggest film of my career so far. However, the sources claim that the actor ruled out of the period drama as he doesn’t want to try another costume-drama post the failure of Kalank.

The actor currently has David Dhawan directorial, Coolie No 1, which is a remake of the classic comedy-drama of the same name originally performed by Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. The remake will star Varun Dhawan along with Sara Ali Khan as a fresh pair. The movie is currently in the post-production phase and might release by the end of this year.
