In the post-pandemic era, a clear sign of a film’s success is the scheduling of shows after midnight, a trend initially prominent in major cities like Mumbai and Delhi. Gadar 2 set the precedent for smaller towns, and now, Animal, the latest release starring Ranbir Kapoor, is following suit.

Cities such as Mumbai, Surat, and Ahmedabad have begun offering bookings for Animal with showtimes after 12:00 am, 1:00 am, and 5:00 am. Maxus Cinemas, a multiplex chain that pioneered this trend, is scheduling shows at 1:00 am, 2:00 am, 5:30 am, and 6:15 am at its Bhayander property near Mumbai, indicating a potential trend across its other locations.

PVR Oberoi Mall in Goregaon, Mumbai, has organized a show at 12:30 am, with evening and night shows nearly sold out. Cinepolis in Bhandup is hosting a 1:15 am show. Meanwhile, theaters in Ahmedabad, including Connplex Smart Theatres in Parimal, Prahladnagar, and Shilaj, and Sanelite Cinemas in Science City and Gandhinagar, are playing Animal in post-midnight slots.

Roongta Cinemas in Vesu, Surat, is also joining the trend, offering a post-midnight screening of Animal on an all-recliner screen. An industry source explained that the decision to hold post-midnight shows is driven by the overwhelming demand for Animal, as it faces capacity challenges due to competition with Sam Bahadur and its extended runtime. The source anticipates more theaters across various cities adopting post-midnight showings in response to the film’s positive word of mouth.
