Anand L Rai and Producer actor Sohum Shah from ‘Ship of Theseus’, ‘Talvar’ and ‘Simran’ fame bring you ‘Tumbbad’, a mystical hindi language Indian horror movie that tells a tale of human greed beyond fear.

Anand L Rai And Sohum Shah

The film stars Sohum Shah in the lead with Harish Khanna, Ronjini Chakraborty, Anita Date, Mohd Samad, Jyoti Malshe, Deepak Damle and Dhundiraj Prabhakar Joglekar playing other pivotal characters in it.

Hindi cinema is still at a struggling phase when it comes to this genre. Directed by debutante Rahil Anil Barve and Adesh Prasad, seems like Horror genre is finally going to find its right place in Hindi cinema with ‘Tumbbad’ .

The film is set in early 19th century in a fictional village called Tumbbad in Maharashtra. The team released the trailer  which gives a glimpse of the spookiness of the mystical village of horror and the surrounding environment with minimalist dialogues spoken.

Two young Brahman boys are seen leaving the village with their mother as “Sarkar” has died, however, one of them refuses to leave and questions about being a legal heir of the treasure which is protected by a ghost. Whoever has gone in search of it has never come back alive.

Much isn’t revealed in the trailer, yet it is enough to get you hooked and wanting to know more about the mystery and mayhem surrounding the treasure and the horrors of the place. Sohum who plays the character of Vinayak Rao, seems to be the one to unlock the treasure along with the Brahman kid.

‘Tumbbad’ isn’t your cliche periodical horror story, its much more than that. Six years it took for it to become a proper feature film. It is the first ever Indian movie to be  screened at the ’75th Venice International Film Festival’ and was received really well by the audience and film critics.

This fantasy horror drama releases in India on 12th October in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu.
