Sanjay Dutt made his second outing of the year with Torbaaz which released directly on the OTT giant, Netflix, last weekend and went on to grab headlines for its storyline. The movie helmed by Girish Malik managed to maintain good ratings among the cinema lovers and the action-thriller is currently trending at Netflix in India and many countries.
The first Bollywood movie to be shot in Kyrgyzstan, Torbaaz, beautifully shares the heart-warming story of refugee children in Afghanistan who end up as victims of terrorism. Sanjay Dutt portrays the character of a medical professional who lost his family while he was placed in the Indian Embassy in Kabul and. The movie, released in 192 countries in 31 languages, takes a delightful turn as the lives of the children and the protagonist transform by the game of cricket.
“Torbaaz is a story of the triumph of the human spirit and the humane way with which it addresses a serious issue like terrorism. We are delighted the way it has caught on with the audiences worldwide,” says filmmaker Rahul Mittra who also played the character of an Afghan army officer in the thriller drama.
“Sanjay and all the children in the film have only added to the narrative with their performance. We had two closed-door screenings and everyone who watched the film got extremely emotional,” said filmmaker Puneet Singh who was up for a theatrical release but the OTT release turned out to be a better response considering the pandemic. “The audience wants real and authentic stories. It’s all about content and performance now. OTT has changed the way content is accepted and viewed,” he added.
Bankrolled by Puneet Singh, Rahu Chadha and Rahul Mittra, Torbaaz also features Nargis Fakhri, Rahul Dev, Gavie Chahal, and Kuwaarjeet Chopraa in pivotal characters. The movie premiered on Netflix on 11 December.
