Theatres and multiplexes are facing the toughest time since last year as the pandemic sealed their business. Although the theatres have started premiering movies with full capacity, the uncertain environment is not promising a profitable run for the filmmakers and therefore, the majority of them are opting for OTT releases for their movies.

Joining the bandwagon, the latest report suggests that Farhan Akhtar starrer sports-drama, Toofan, will now be released directly on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video, skipping the conventional theatrical release. The movie was earlier slated to release in September last year but the pandemic-induced lockdown changed the course of plans for the makers and the movie was put on indefinite hold.

Now that the baggage of an unreleased movie is getting heavier, the makers have decided to close the deal with the OTT giant rather than waiting for the theatrical business to get back to normal. However, there are also many production houses that have announced theatrical release dates of their movies in the past few months.

Helmed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, Toofan features Farhan Akhtar as a boxer along with Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in prominent characters. The sports drama also marks the second outing of Mehra and Akhtar in the sports genre after the blockbuster Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
