After the success of HBO’s fantasy series Game Of Thrones, every other giant video streaming platforms are focusing on the fantasy genre. While Amazon bought the rights to the Lord of the Rings for a hefty amount, Netflix is all prepped to take on HBO with the fantasy series The Witcher starring Henry Cavill as the central character.

Based on the fantasy book series written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowiski, Witchers are monster killers in the fictional universe, The Continent, who undergo ruthless physical and mental training from their childhood to gain special abilities and magical powers.

Best known for portraying the comic-based character of Superman in the DC Universe, Henry Cavill is playing the main character of Geralt of Rivia, a witcher in The Continent. In the first look released by Netflix, his character is looking gritty as expected but young and missing the iconic scars, which he might get along his journey in the fantasy series.

Yeneffer The Witcher

Apart from Henry Cavill’s Geralt, first looks of his love interest Yennefer, portrayed by Anya Chalotra, and mysterious girl Ciri, portrayed by Freya Allan, were also unveiled. Their looks are equally promising and worth the wait.

Ciri The Witcher

Created by Schmidt Hissrich, Netflix’s fantasy drama series The Witcher is expected to premiere by the end of the year and might take on the unprecedented success of The Game of Thrones.
