Marvel’s latest superhero offering, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is gearing up for a solid debut in India, defying early expectations. Although initial buzz and awareness around the film seemed low among Indian audiences, advance bookings have painted a more positive picture. Even with Saiyaara still going strong in its second week, this Hollywood release has managed to generate strong momentum.
As of Thursday night, nearly 50,000 tickets had been sold across major national cinema chains including PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. This is a strong showing considering the film faces stiff competition. Contributing factors to its solid performance include a strong cast, an engaging promotional campaign, and most notably, glowing early reviews from Western critics. The last-minute rise in interest has sparked curiosity, and the Marvel brand—though not as dominant as before—continues to carry weight. With Thunderbolts performing well earlier this year, there are signs that the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be on the path to a strong comeback.
Interestingly, Superman, which released two weeks earlier, sold 56,000 tickets in advance. If The Fantastic Four: First Steps sees better-than-expected spot bookings on release day, it could challenge Superman’s opening day earnings of ₹7.20 crores. While that may be a stretch, a start above ₹6.50 crores would still be considered an achievement, especially with Saiyaara drawing large crowds. For comparison, Thunderbolts had opened at ₹4 crores, making the current figures look even more impressive.
Hollywood films have been enjoying a strong run at the Indian box office lately. The momentum began with F1: The Movie, followed by Jurassic World: Rebirth and Superman. If The Fantastic Four: First Steps sees a rise in footfalls over the weekend and maintains its pace into the weekdays, it could become the fourth Hollywood hit of the season in India.
Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, the film is on track to earn between $90 to $100 million in both North America and international markets. Globally, its opening weekend collection is expected to reach around $200 million.
