The much-awaited second season of the thriller web series, The Family Man 2, is about to release and the trailer of the show was well received by the fans. However, a certain section of the viewers objected to the portrayal of Tamilians in the movie and ignited a backlash. Following the online protests, Rajya Sabha MP wrote a letter to I&B Ministry to ban the series. Now the makers have come out in public with their opinions and requested everyone to watch the show before coming to conclusion.
For the uninitiated, the recently released trailer of Manoj Bajpayee starrer The Family Man 2 features Samantha Akkineni as the antagonist Raji, a terrorist and some viewers have found the portrayal as derogatory to Tamilians and their culture. Many political leaders have demanded a ban on the show and the creates, Raj & DK, decided to address the controversy.
The director’s duo issued a statement clarifying that they are very cognizant of the sentiments of the Tamil people and their culture. “Some assumptions and impressions have been made based on just a couple of shots in the trailer. Many of our lead cast members, as well as key members of the creative & writing team, are Tamilians. We are very cognizant of the sentiments of the Tamil people and Tamil culture and have nothing but the utmost love and respect towards our Tamil people,” the statement read.
The makers further urged the viewers to watch the series to come to a conclusion as a short trailer is not enough to understand the plot of a thriller web series. “We have put in years of hard work into this show, and we have taken great pains to bring to our audiences a sensitive, balanced, and riveting story – much like we did in Season 1 of the show. We request everyone to wait and watch the show when it releases. We know you’ll appreciate it once you watch it,” the statement concludes.
Created by Raj & DK, The Family Man 2 features Manoj Bajpayee, Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi, and Samantha Akkineni among others in key roles. The second season of the thriller franchise will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video from 4 June.
