Bollywood has been obsessed with biopics and remakes lately. While everyone has been eagerly waiting for Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of Kapil Dev in the sports drama ’83, Parineeti Chopra is working hard to better her game as a badminton player for the upcoming biopic on Saina Nehwal. Now, Taapsee Pannu has announced that she will be essaying the life of Indian women cricket team captain, Mithali Raj, in her next.
The Badla actress took to her Instagram handle to make an announcement about the sports biopic on the birthday of Mithali Raj. Taapsee Pannu shared a picture of her with the cricket captain cutting her birthday cake as she wrote, “On this Birthday of yours I don’t know what gift I can give you but this promise that I shall give it all I have to make sure you will be proud of what you see of yourself on screen with #ShabaashMithu”
In a statement to Bombay Times, Taapsee Pannu opened up about the pressure of stepping into the shoes of an international sportsperson. However, she added that even though the pressure was building up, she didn’t want to trade the honour with anyone else. “Mithali has always been brave and strong to back the truth, and that is why I connect with her. She has changed the way women’s cricket is perceived in India and her story is truly worth telling,” she said while praising Mithali Raj.
Taapsee Pannu has earlier portrayed the character of a hockey player and a sharpshooter in the sports biopics, Soorma and Saand Ki Aankh, respectively.
