Aamir Khan’s production Lahore 1947 is entering its last leg of filming. After reports surfaced last year that Khan had suggested revisions following the film’s first cut, director Rajkumar Santoshi and lead actor Sunny Deol are now preparing to bring those changes to life.
According to reports, Sunny Deol will return to shoot next week for what is expected to be the final schedule of the period drama, which captures the emotional struggles of people during the Partition of India. The team is set to travel to Punjab, where filming will begin on October 10 and continue for around 12 days. Much of this stretch will feature newly planned sequences, with a focus on authenticity through real locations.
While the ensemble cast also includes Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi, the upcoming schedule will spotlight Deol alone, as the other actors have already completed their parts. Preity wrapped up her shoot in June, sharing a heartfelt Instagram post in which she described Lahore 1947 as the toughest film of her career and thanked Santoshi, Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, cinematographer Santosh Sivan, and composer A.R. Rahman.
The film originally went on floors in February 2024 with plans for a 2025 release. However, the team has chosen to extend the timeline. An insider revealed that Aamir, Sunny, and Santoshi all agreed it was better to focus on quality rather than rush the film. With this, Lahore 1947 is now expected to hit theatres in 2026, as post-production is already in progress.
With its final schedule about to begin, the film is steadily moving closer to completion and promises to deliver a powerful new chapter in Indian cinema’s portrayal of the Partition era.
