Netflix’s hit survival game show series, Squid Game, has added four new cast members to its highly anticipated second season. Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-guen will join the returning cast members Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo, who played main roles in Season 1. This exciting announcement was made during Netflix’s Tudum event in Brazil.

According to reports from Variety, the second season of Squid Game is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2024. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed during a Netflix press conference in September 2022 that filming for Season 2 will begin in 2023 and the release is planned for the following year.

The upcoming season of this Korean series has high expectations to meet, considering the massive success of Squid Game. The show became a global phenomenon, attracting 1.65 billion hours of viewing within 28 days. Its outstanding popularity was followed by historic Emmy wins for the cast and crew, with the series securing six awards out of its 14 nominations. Lee Jung-jae, the lead actor, made history as the first Asian actor to win in the category.

In addition to the cast announcement for Season 2, Netflix also revealed another exciting development during the Tudum event. A controversial unscripted competition spinoff called Squid Game: The Challenge is set to premiere in November. However, reports from Variety have raised concerns about the conditions on the set of the new competition series, with one contestant describing them as “inhumane.” The show has garnered attention for its intense and challenging nature.

Fans of Squid Game can look forward to the highly anticipated second season, which promises to deliver more thrilling moments and surprises. With the addition of new cast members and the continued success of the franchise, the future of Squid Game looks incredibly promising.
