The short film “Sheer Qorma”, which stars actress Swara Bhasker, Divya Dutta and Shabana Azmi, is expected to see its world premiere at the BAFTA Qualifying Frameline: San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival. The festival, which is considered to be the largest queer film exhibition event in the world, will take place from June 10 to 27.

Sheer Qorma has a strong narrative an LGBTQ+ theme and it marks a story of love and acceptance, revolving around Swara, Divya and Shabana Azmi in the lead roles. According to Shabana Azmi, love shouldn’t be judged, or be confined. She reveals that Sheer Qorma is a soft story and moralises that we have the freedom to choose who we love. The actress feels extremely happy to see her labour of love go beyond across borders and reach the audience and get credits and recognition at a global platform like the Frameline Film Festival. She believes that in these gloomy times, the film is a ray of happiness and hope.

Additionally, Swara Bhasker too feels very excited about the world premiere of ‘Sheer Qorma’ which is going to be at the BAFTA Qualifying Frameline. She says that it is amongst one such story that deserves to be platformed and presented well so that it can reach out to as many people as possible within India, and outside of the Indian boundaries as well because love is everywhere and the concept is the universal tale of the present times. She finds it very important that these stories should be heard.

Divya Dutta too believes that it’s a huge deal for them to be qualified for Frameline at the BAFTA. BAFTA being the most prestigious festival in the world doesn’t make it easy to qualify at Frameline. So, for the film to get there and actually be the first to be there is the biggest platform for the team.

Film director Ansari feels happy and grateful to have such a prestigious world premiere for Sheer Qorma. To him, it is a huge honour and feels like such a big win for the entire team. Frameline is the world’s biggest queer exhibition that celebrates the best queer cinema all over the world and he truly believes that there is no other platform better for the film to takes its first steps into the world.

Marijke Desouza, the producer adds that he was drawn to the film due to Faraz who has scripted it so tenderly and gracefully managed to speak about the topic of a non-binary & a queer person’s love story while focusing on the relationship on a parent and child at the same time. He made it so relatable and made him feel like this could be anyone’s love story. It is that effortless and natural.

The trailer of the film was released last year. The short film’s release date is still waiting to be announced.
