Even before the pandemic affected the business of theatre releases, OTT platforms had become prevalent in the country with their artistic take on unexceptional stories. While web-series saw its forthcoming success in the Indian entertainment industry, many 90s actors saw it as a platform to flex their acting muscles. Here’s a list of actors who played their second innings with OTT platforms and made phenomenal comebacks.

1. Saif Ali Khan in Netflix Original Sacred Games

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was one of the first few Bollywood’s A-listers to make digital debut and it turned out to be one of his greatest performances. Saif played the troubled cop trying to save his city Mumbai from impending doom in a global conspiracy. His portrayal of the Sartaj Singh received critical-acclaim and the web-series was renewed for a second season.

2. Arshad Warsi in Voot Original Asur

After a decade of hit-and-miss performances, Arshad Warsi had his calling in Voot original web-series, Asur. Arshad played the lead detective alongside Barun Sobti probing a serial killer case in the gripping thriller. The web-series turned out to be one of the gems in the thriller genre and both Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti proved their acting potential as one of the most underrated actors.

3. Dia Mirza in ZEE5 Original Kaafir

Dia Mirza made an unexpected comeback with ZEE5 original series Kaafir co-starring Mohit Raina. The poignant tale of border conflict located in Kashmir, Kaafir tapped on an unexplored shade of the actress as she played the protagonist based on a real-life story. Kaafir managed to garner all-positive reviews and Dia Mirza yet again proved her mantle.

4. Sushmita Sen in Disney+ Hotstar Special Aarya

Based on the Dutch drama series Penoza by Pieter Bart KorthuisAarya put an end to the decade-long sabbatical of Sushmita Sen and marked her digital debut. Playing the protagonist in the crime-thriller, Sushmita made a brilliant comeback and was well-received by critics and audiences alike for her stellar performance.

5. Bobby Deol in MX Original Aashram

Bollywood actor Bobby Deol is one of the underrated actors of the industry and he had been struggling for a good script until Aashram happened. Loosely based on self-acclaimed godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Asharam is a gripping and dark crime drama series starring Bobby Deol in the lead. While everyone lauded his portrayal of a conned preacher, the second chapter of Aashram released in mere months adding more grittiness to the series.

6. Manoj Bajpayee in Amazon Original The Family Man

Manoj Bajpayee is undoubtedly one of the most versatile actors of the country and he has been delivering stellar performances for three decades. However, after a number of bad releases, Manoj made his digital debut with Amazon Original Series The Family Man and positive reviews spread like wildfire on social media. Portraying a dual-life character of a middle-class man and a world-class spy, Manoj brought the edgy action-drama series to life.
