Actress Sayani Gupta who has recently starred in the Netflix film Pagglait opens up about how she finds the concept of idolising a celebrity strange. She thinks it is bizarre and is only be prevailing in India, with the actors talking about the business of a film.

In her language, as an actor, one should not be thinking about any such things since it’s no one’s job. One’s job is to perform well, give their best and not be there in this due to some ulterior motive. She thinks that the Box office is not in anyone’s control, and is absolutely against actors that talk about digits and claim their films have made 100 crores. “How does that matter?” Sayani asks.

Sayani believes that as an actor it’s her job is to do her job well and do it right, and be ready to portray the character in the best possible way while becoming the medium of the vision of her director and writer. She lays it down and real that in cinema, the actor is one small part of the film. It’s only in our country where people make them a massive deal and perform star worship. She says that she is as important as the director of photography of the film and half of the acting happens on the edit table.

To her cinema is not just an actor’s medium but also the entire crew’s medium. Adding to it, Sayami says it’s the responsibility of the producer to look at the business. If the film is starring a huge star, the responsibility becomes different but the actors shouldn’t be blamed for a film’s failure.

“A film’s results are not in an actor’s control”, she insists. In fact, she argues that it isn’t even in the makers’ control. Personally, she gives us an instance that she is always nervous when she starts working on a character and she is extremely critical of the work she does and the only thing is if she has done a wonderful job or not. She is thankful that she hasn’t got a bad review lately.
