On June 14, Bollywood lost one of its finest and self-made actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, who killed himself by hanging at his Bandra residence. While the initial police investigation informed depression to be the cause of suicide but after pressure from the fans and some of the late actor’s friends, the police is leaving no stones unturned to probe any angle of professional rivalry.

In the ongoing investigation, the Mumbai police have recorded statements of 30 people in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput including some of the big names of the Indian entertainment industry. The most recent police interrogation was with renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali which went over 4 hours with around 35 questions related to his involvements with the actor.

Netizens have been bluntly accusing the Bollywood industry of suppressing outside talent and there were reports that Sanjay Leela Bhansali dropped and replaced Sushant Singh Rajput from his several projects which turned out to be blockbusters. The actor was supposed to play the lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, Ram Leela, and later Bajirao Mastani, but things didn’t materialize and both the projects were passed to Ranveer Singh. Rajput had also auditioned for Bhansali’s television drama, Saraswatichandra, as well but didn’t get the shot.

The filmmaker was questioned for three hours at Bandra police station followed by one hour at Santa Cruz police station regarding his personal and professional relationship with the late actor. Refuting the claims of replacing Sushant Singh Rajput, the filmmaker said that he neither replaced nor dropped Sushant Singh Rajput from any of his films. Bhansali further added that the actor was under three-movies contract with Yash Raj Films which resulted in his exit from the movies directed by him.

“I knew Sushant as an actor like I know other artists. He was not close to me to share his feelings. Hence, I never came to know what’s happening in his life. I did not know about his depression,” said the filmmaker and also mentioned that he was impressed with his acting skills and wanted to work with the actor.
